A Canton Resident & WMU Professor Has A New Book Out!

One of the most iconic Americans of the last century was Walt Disney. From a simple cartoon ("Steamboat Willie") he created an entertainment empire that has brought joy and wonder to millions of people worldwide. As much as we seem to know about him, to many he still remains a bit of an enigma. Recently, Christopher W. Tremblay, a Western Michigan Professor of Education and Canton resident, has added to the trove of books about Disney from a different perspective. "Walt's Pilgrimage" chronicles the man's travels from his birth in Chicago in 1901, until his passing in Burbank, CA in 1966. Tremblay, in his unique style, shows us Disney's life through the lens of the North American landscape, serving as a travel guide as well as biography.

As an alumni of Western Michigan, I was excited to see this book published. Professor Tremblay's comprehensive book covers over 275 individual locations that Disney spent time in, along the way showing his creative process and inspirations. At 70 chapters, the book is chock full of facts and anecdotes that will delight both the passing Disney fan and the enthusiast alike. If you have young kids, don't despair: A children's version of the book is almost complete and will be published, as well as a condensed trivia version.
