Hey everyone! If you are anything like me, you like to stay on top of community events and news. Personally, I find it hard to check out every single local paper to see what is going on in my neck of the woods. However, much like most areas of our life, social media can be a powerful tool to this end. I belong to a couple of Facebook groups that I wanted to bring to your attention.
For general Plymouth-Canton community posts, I joined All Things Plymouth-Canton. There are some really great people in the group to help provide recommendations and keep me up to date on what is going on. One of the best parts of being in a Facebook group is anytime someone posts, I get a notification, so I don't have to scroll through my newsfeed to find the most relevant information. I get a notification and can go right to the post to see what it is all about. Another great feature in this group, that I find a lot of groups lack, is a limitation on business promotions. Too often, you want to see what days the Plymouth Ice Festival is taking place, only to have to scroll through 15 promotions for local businesses. So the group limits this activity to Thursdays only, and deletes any posts that do not conform to the rules.
The other local group I think is really helpful is Plymouth/Canton Crime Watch. This group is specifically dedicated to news regarding crime and safety in the community. Being a parent, I always want to know what is going on so I can be sure my family is safe. The nice thing about this group is the moderator follows the Canton, Plymouth and Plymouth Township[ Police Departments on Twitter, and then makes sure the information goes right to the group members. Also, you won't see a bunch of posts about bad neighbors or jaywalking, as they keep a close eye on what gets posted.
Keeping up on EVERYTHING is tough. We all live busy lives (myself included). But to keep a sense of community in the digital age, there is really no better way than joining these groups. Whether you are looking for a great local house painter or just want to see what is going on at the Summit or in Downtown Plymouth, I can't recommend these groups enough!
